Frequently Asked Questions
I'm nervous about starting therapy. Is this normal?
Yes, very. Though some people are very comfortable and open up immediately, there are others who are more guarded and take a little while to talk about things that they are struggling with. It's perfectly normal and there is no pressure. Just take the first step of scheduling an appointment, and more often than not, you'll find it gets easier after that. Remember... no pressure.
What should I expect in my first session?
Your first session is about understanding your concerns and goals. You'll be asked questions to get to know you, and time will be taken to discuss how therapy can help. It’s a safe space, and there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with.
How long does therapy usually take to work?
The length of therapy varies based on your needs. Some people find relief in a few sessions, while others benefit from ongoing support. Your progress will be regularly reviewed to ensure therapy is working for you.
Is everything I say in therapy confidential?
In the general sense... definitely! Psychologists in general are bound by strict ethical guidelines. On a more personal level... your privacy and confidentiality are taken EXTREMELY seriously and various extra measures are employed to ensure you're always safe. There are certain confidentiality caveats that all psychologists have to abide by and you will be informed about this before you start your session.
Will therapy actually help me?
Therapy is a powerful tool for growth and healing. While progress depends on your engagement and openness, many people find therapy life-changing. A tailored solution will be explored to meet your needs.
Do you work with couples or families?
Yes. Therapy can help greatly to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships.
How much does therapy cost?

Can I stop therapy anytime I want?
Absolutely. Therapy is your choice, and you can stop at any time. However, it is recommended to have a closing off session to reflect on progress and discuss next steps.
Do you offer psychological testing and assessments?
Definitely. You can get psychological assessments/psychometric tests for various concerns, including mental health conditions, learning difficulties, job suitability, personality traits and much more. Call to discuss your needs and find out if testing is right for you.
How do I handle therapy if I feel uncomfortable sharing personal details?
Therapy moves at your pace. You never have to share more than you’re ready to. Over time, as trust builds, it often becomes easier to open up.
What if I need medication in addition to therapy?
If medication can help and is deemed necessary, you'll be referred to a psychiatrist. Therapy and medication can at times work well together to support your well-being.
